With the COVID-19 pandemic, the last year has not been one of travel and studying abroad. However, as the world opens up, so too are study abroad programs. We’ve compiled some of the grandest study abroad programs that will be open for the upcoming academic year.

First on our list is the Global Architecture & Design program at the Institute for Advanced Architecture of Catalonia.

The program is currently accepting students for their spring 2022 start date and accepting applications until October 1, 2021. This program allows students to look into how the design and architecture of buildings can be modified to reduce their carbon footprint. The overarching goal of the program is to educate students on how the cities of the future will look in the face of climate change. During your time in the program, you will get opportunities to explore the architecture of Barcelona itself. From its castles to its grand cathedrals - there’s never a dull moment on the streets of Barcelona.

Next on our list is the Business, Language and Culture program offered by East China Normal University

This program is also accepting students for a spring 2022 start and is accepting applications until November 1, 2021. The program explores international business through the lens of Chinese culture and language. The program aims to improve intercultural understanding by giving students first hand experience to how business operates worldwide. Since the program is based out of Shanghai, students will get to experience the hustle and bustle of the big city. While the city does features many tourist attractions, Shanghai is home to the Chinese contemporary art scene and has hidden gems left and right!

For a program starting sooner than the last two, look no further than the Liberal Arts program at Université Rennes II

With a deadline on November 1, 2021, this program is looking to take in students for it’s winter 2022 semester. The program explores french language and culture through its 19-week course. The goal of the program is to give students a true and authentic understanding of France through first hand experience and in depth learning of the culture. The program is nested in the small city of Rennes, just an hour away from the sea. Rennes offers a vibrant atmosphere for students to take in, and is only a short train ride away from Paris.

In taking a more tropical turn, the CIEE offers a Tropical Ecology and Conservation program based out of Monteverde, Costa Rica

This three month program introduces students to the fascinating world of tropical ecology through an independent research project. Moreover, students will get the chance to learn spanish at Centro Panamericano De Idiomas. While studying, you’ll be able to explore the vast and rich Costa rican countryside. Costa Rica is home to a diverse wildlife population from macaws to sea turtles; there is never a lack of wonders to admire.

Finally, if you’d like a shorter, but still memorable trip, the Gender and Sexuality program offered by the CIEE in Copenhagen, Denmark is for you!

The program runs for four weeks from the end of 2021 and into the start of 2022 and is accepting applications until November 1, 2021. Students will get a chance to learn about how gender and sexuality have evolved in the social eye from a Danish perspective. While completing this project, you’ll get to explore the streets of Copenhagen which are filled with royal palaces and grand gardens.

As more and more study abroad programs open up for the upcoming academic year, the importance of planning your trip out becomes paramount.
